Abstract


This research aims to study the ability of cadmium resistant rhizobacteria to promote the growth of Derris indica in uncontaminated and cadmium contaminated soils. The efficiency of cadmium resistant rhizobacteria on promoting cadmium uptake and accumulation by D. indica planted in cadmium contaminated for 60 days was investigated. The results found that  cadmium resistant rhizobacteria, namely Micrococcus sp. MU1 and Enterobacter sp. LOEI2 can promote the growth of D. indica by increasing the relative growth to 1.37 ± 0.04 and 1.31 ± 0.02, respectively compare to the uninoculated control (1.27±0.01). The results of a pot experiment in cadmium-contaminated soil found thatthe relative growthof D. indicainoculated with Micrococcus sp. MU1 and Enterobacter sp. LOEI2 was different from that of the uninoculated control, D. indicainoculated with Enterobacter sp. LOEI2 showed the highest relative growth and cadmium contents in both the roots and aboveground parts by cadmium analysis result followed by Micrococcus sp. MU1.  In addition, the highest phytoextraction coefficient values and translocation factor were found in Enterobacter sp. LOEI2 treatment by 0.84, and followed by Micrococcus sp. MU1 treatment (0.69), which were greater than the uninoculated control plants. In conclusion, both cadmium resistant rhizobacteria can be used for promoting efficiency of cadmium phytoremediation by D. indica in contaminated areas.
