SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGS) OF COMMUNITIES IN UDON THANI PROVINCE
Abstract
This research aims to study and analyze the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of communities in Udon Thani Province, Thailand. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data were collected from a survey of 100 households across two sub-districts in two districts: Khuea Nam, Ban Phue, and Tha Li, Kumphawapi. The results revealed that households in both communities had an average monthly income of 8,013 Baht but an average remaining balance of 1,243 Baht. About 37% of households were in debt, and 86% had no savings. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews. Communities in Udon Thani Province attach great importance to the preservation of local culture, traditional wisdom, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture. Moreover, strong local leadership and active community participation were identified as key driving factors for sustainable development. However, major challenges in achieving the SDGs include the lack of financial support from government and private sectors, insufficient knowledge of product development based on local identity, and limited marketing promotion. Nevertheless, the communities have addressed these challenges through the application of local wisdom, network collaboration, and the development of community products. These efforts fostered local innovation and value creation under BCG Economy Model, resulting in increased income for participating households. The study found that the income of poor households increased by 154.47%. Government and non-governmental organizations should act as facilitators and supporters in promoting SDG implementation that aligns with local contexts. Such collaboration will promote community well-being and long-term sustainability.
