Abstract

The objectives of this research are to study the military conscription laws of Thailand and certain other countries, and to propose recommendations for improving Thailand’s conscription laws to be more suitable for the current situations and national context. This study employs a qualitative research methodology, focusing on the examination of factual and legal information derived from books, academic texts, related research works, verified electronic data, and other relevant legal sources. The collected data were analyzed and discussed descriptively. The research findings reveal that, under the current circumstances, military conscription in Thailand remains appropriate and legitimate. However, if the situation changes, consideration should be given to abolishing compulsory conscription and adopting a voluntary military service system, similar to that of the United States and the United Kingdom.
